About twelve kilometers from Alto Paraíso, Moinho holds a history tied to the routes between the highlands and the Vão do Paranã. The Vale do São Bartolomeu offered a passage over gentler terrain, which made travel easier. The vegetation and the waterways connect these environments.
Meals cooked on a wood-fired stove, local products and conversations with residents round out the visit. Dona Flor and Dona Conceição are touchstones of Moinho's traditional knowledge and food. Book lunch before heading out to the Anjos and Arcanjos waterfalls, and arrange your visit to the community's shops.
Dona Flor and the knowledge of the Cerrado
Florentina Pereira dos Santos, Dona Flor, was a midwife and an expert in plants. She had eighteen children and attended more than three hundred births. Her life story brings together care, territory, spirituality and the passing of knowledge between generations.
Dona Flor died on August 9, 2023. Her memory lives on in Moinho and in the work of relatives, among them Wilson and Deija, with traditional products. Bottled herbal tonics, syrups, jabuticaba liqueurs and rapadura (unrefined cane sugar) are part of this heritage. When you come across plant preparations, ask about their ingredients and purpose before using them.
